         Filey Brigg
FILEY BAY

Flamborough Head

Filey seafront

Filey lies between Filey Brigg to the North and Flamborough Head to the South. Filey has one of the best beaches in the country with firm sand ideal for building sand castles and children just love to be able to spend hours down on the beach and in the sea. Filey also has an unspoilt  seafront with a few childrens rides, cafes and shops and only one seafront amusement arcade on the coble landing. The coble landing is also where the fishing boats and the lifeboat launch. There is also a crazy golf course with a giant lobster. At the cliff top at the south end of Filey seafront there is a small boating lake and some free childrens swings and slides in a park. Filey museum is in the old part of the town. Filey town has a good selection of shops and a supermarket all of which are only a few minutes walk away at the top of the hill, so it is not worth taking your car. Most people find this a very novel experience "Shopping without the car???". There is also a good selection of restaurants, take aways and of course famous Filey fish and chip shops within easy walking distance.

Filey Brig

Filey Brigg has some of the best  rock pools and fishing in the country. The rock pools contain all sorts of sea life including sea anemones. limpets and  crabs, The bay side of Filey Brig has mussel beds. Children love the rock pools and with a bit of patience and a mussel (out of its shell) tied on a piece of cotton you can often tempt small fish and crabs out of the crevices of the larger  pools in the front of this photo. The back of the Brigg (Scarborough side and round the point seen in the far far left of this photo) can have good fishing for mackerel with spinners on an evening if they are in  during the summer.

Flamborough Head

Flamborough Head has many amazing places to visit from the RSPB reserve at Bempton Cliffs, Thornwick bay, North Landing, Selwicks Bay, South Landing, Danes Dyke and Sewerby. The Photo above was taken from the clifftop walk between North Landing to Selwicks Bay and the one below further on across Selwicks Bay to the most easterly point just below the light house.

Silex bay
Flamborough Lighthouse

A really good walk (2.5 hours) is to park the car in Flamborough village main street, walk along  to North landing (cafe and toilets) then round the cliff top path to Selwicks Bay and the lighthouse ( cafe, shop and toilets) then along the cliff top path to South Landing (very nice little cafe and toilets) then back into the village to your car.

Good Filey web sites

Photographs of Filey. Stunning photos of Filey. Look for "Bridge Hole Sunrise" immediately in front of the cottages. The cottages can be plainly seen on several photos painted white immediately to the left of the central hill in the middle of Filey seafront.

Bill Ls Site. A personal site with lots about Filey, including a story of our grandfather's steam drifter Silverline based in Scarborough but with an all Filey crew.

http://www. fileybrigg.com/

Filey Brigg. Lots of information, charts and pictures of the geology, archeology and natural history of Filey Brigg, the rocky promontory that guards Filey Bay from the worst effects of a Northerly gale. Everyone walks on the  Brigg when on a holiday in Filey.

Filey Bay web site. A brilliant site with lots of usefull pages about the museum, lifeboat, Filey Brig and including the wreck of the Bonhomme Richard which may be in Filey bay. In fact everything you  might want to know about Filey and the bay.
